2022 Goals & Resolutions

Every year on New Year’s Day, Andrew and I sit down with big cups of coffee (him) and tea (me) and review our goals from the previous year.  We see what we accomplished, what we’ve gotten better about, which goals don’t feel relevant anymore and which goals we want to continue to work toward or improve upon.  Next, we work on our list for the coming year.  I’ve been using the same notebook since we started our tradition back in 2017 and it’s been really nice to be able to reference so many years in one place.

Today I’m sharing some of my 2022 goals here on the blog too.  I always break down my goals into categories and for the first time since I started this notebook, the top category on my list is budgeting instead of reading.  Shocking, I know!

Budgeting

-Determine how much to save each month

-Follow a strict clothing and book budget (this will no doubt be the hardest goal on my list)

-Read guidelines before every purchase (I created a list of questions to ask myself before I buy anything)

-Maintain our 2022 budgeting spreadsheet (We’ve been doing this for years and it’s a goal I intend to continue forever)

-Implement a one in, one out system

-Do not buy anymore t-shirts (I did a closet cleanout last week and I determined that I’ll never need to buy a new t-shirt for the rest of my life)

-Make a wish list folder on my iPhone (my friend Rachel does this and I love the idea!)

-Start looking for a house (!!!!!)

Reading

-Read 100 books (this is my standard goal each year though I always hope to go above it)

-Reduce my physical TBR to 100 books (this should be doable if I follow my book budget and do one more culling of my TBR pile which I’m hoping to tackle this week)

-Use my new book rating system based purely on my personal enjoyment

-Take a photo of every physical book I read

-Re-read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up (done!)

Food

-Keep a food journal

-Control portion sizes

-Bake once a week

Organization

-Clean out iPhone camera roll (this is going to be a TASK)

-Organize my saved photos on instagram into folders

-Declutter all the things

-Reorganize kitchen cabinets

-Maintain 2022 bullet journal

Lifestyle

-Take a vacation with Andrew (this is booked!)

-Monthly date days in NYC with Andrew

-Try 10 new to me NYC restaurants

-Start posting monthly purchases on the blog again

-Exercise 3x a week

-Doctor’s appointments (dentist, eye doctor, physical, etc)

-Take my vitamin d pill every day (I forget to do this ALL the time)

Fun

-Complete two needlepoint projects

-Finish Star Trek: Voyager

-Watch Star Trek: Enterprise

-Finish InuYasha

-Watch 25 movies

I’ve always wanted to learn needlepoint. I need to clean out my iPhone camera roll as well, but you’re so right, it’s a chore! Good luck with all your goals!

Thank you! I just started needlepointing last year and I ‘learned’ through YouTube videos but I really want to take a beginner class because I think I would benefit from having IRL help. But it’s relaxing and fun to do while listening to an audiobook!

I used to forget my Vitamin D pill all the time until someone gave me a weekly pill organizer. It makes me feel
ancient but I never forget now!

I’ve had the same insight regarding t-shirts. Went through my closet a few months ago and was just like… I’ll never need to buy a new t-shirt in my life 😅

So exciting that you’re gonna start looking for a house! We did that journey last year (with success) and it was so nerve-racking and so fun at the same time. Good luck with it!!

  4. I’m the exact same way with t-shirts. I have so many.
